Malte Poppensieker has a nice dicussion of the problems of coming up with a really good definition of Service-Oriented Architecture.

Good definition.
I believe for SOA to be succesful it musst remain product agnostic and simple.

In my opinion while it is important to keep SOA product agnostic, it is also important to stress the importance of standards. It may not be important if a WebService is driven by SOAP over HTTP but it is important WSDL which defines is a standardized.

Deepak,
Thanks for being such a regular reader and commenter! THe standards seem to be the only thing which sets SOA apart from CORBA and other integraiton efforts of the past. IBM and like-minded friends have agreed to some of the same standards as Microsoft.
